Anika, you could easily substitute your own syrup, Jello just makes it super quick and easy to get the flavoring down.

Hi! Thanks for posting this! I've been looking for colored popcorn balls! One question though:
Jello is a bit hard to find in my area (not in the US).

Do you know if the jello contributes anything to the texture of the balls?

If not, probably I could make a flavored and colored syrup cooked to say...hard-ball (just before caramelization)... does that sound like it might yield pretty much the same effect as using Jello? :-D

Thank you!

Shirley, I don't have a recipe for sugar free. You can certainly try the diet Jello, but I think the lack of sugar would keep it from making it harden up, since it does work like candy.

I JUST HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU. MY HUSBAND IS DIABETIC AND LOVES POPCORN BALLS AND I USED TO MAKE ONE USING THE JELLO, (BEFORE) AND NOW WOULD LIKE TO MAKE HIM SOME THAT ARE SUGAR FREE THAT HE CAN EAT. DO YOU HAVE A RECIPE FOR THEM? CAN YOU USE SUGAR FREE JELLO INSTEAD OF REGULAR JELLO IN THIS RECIPE FOR POPCORN BALLS? I LOVE YOUR RECIPES.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. SHIRLEY
