Fruit Salad That Pops

Fruit Salad

Fruit salad may be healthy, but it isn’t always tasty. I’m sure every one of us has had a chance to eat a dull fruit salad that just left your taste buds limp. Unfortunately, this is caused by a couple of different things.

A) The fruit used is not flavorful
B) The wrong fruits are used together

There are dozens of different delightful fruits available to us, but if you put the wrong ones together you’ll end up with a salad that is simply not that exciting and doesn’t taste that great.

The other day I was asked to bring some fruit to a brunch that we were having with friends and rather than just do up a fruit plate, I whipped up a fruit salad to take. It was delicious, so I thought I would share the recipe, which is about as simple as you can get, here.

Sizzling Fruit Salad

6-8 servings

2 large oranges
3 medium apples
2 large bananas or 5 finger bananas
3 c. strawberries
juice of 1 lime or lemon
1 c. water

Peel and cut your oranges into cubes. Quarter and core the apples, then cut into pieces. Small bananas can be sliced, with larger ones, you might want to cut them in half lengthwise first. Strawberries should be hulled and sliced in half lengthwise.

In a bowl, mix your lime juice and water and drop the apples into the mixture as you cut. This will keep them from browning and adds a little extra zap to the flavor.

Toss all ingredients together and chill in the fridge until serving time. I recommend letting the salad sit for at least an hour, since this gives the juices time to mingle. Then toss it again immediately before serving.
