Fall Apple Cobbler

apple cobbler

In many places it’s still fairly warm, but the cold weather is coming and there is nothing more welcome on a crisp fall day than hot apple cobbler fresh from the oven, dribbled with thick cream. It’s homey, yet decadent dessert that is super simple to whip up and guaranteed to impress even your mother-in-law.

Apple Cobbler

Serves 12

Filling:
6 c. apples, cored and chopped
3/4 c. sugar
2 T. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 T. margarine
2 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. lemon zest
2 T. water

Topping:
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. flour
pinch salt
2 T. butter
1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven to 350°.

Mix flour, salt, sugar and cinnamon for the filling and toss with apples. Place in a 9×13 baking pan. Mix lemon juice, zest, water and sprinkle over the apples. Dot with margarine.

Mix the topping ingredients well and drop the batter in evenly spaced spoonfuls across the top of the apples.

Bake for 45 min. or until the top is golden and the apples are tender. Serve hot with cream or ice cream.
