Coconut Cheese Dessert Won Tons with Chocolate
I was testing out a new won ton wrapper recipe the other day and after turning out some different won tons, I decided to try something new. This dessert won ton is perfect for when you have company over. While the wrappers took a while to make, if you live in a country where ready made ones are available, you can literally turn these out and have them ready to serve in 10-15 min.
I’ll be posting the wrapper recipe next week, but here’s how I made these tasty morsels that are just sweet enough to qualify as a dessert. The chocolate is the only sugar included and it plays nicely off the tang of the cream cheese.
Coconut Cream Cheese Won Tons
makes 6
6 3″ circles cut out of won ton wrappers (I made mine square, but later trimmed them)
6 Tblsp. cream cheese
1 chocolate bar, grated
6 Tblsp. grated coconut
Oil
In the center of each won ton, spread a tablespoon of cream cheese. Top with 1 tablespoon of grated coconut. Repeat for all 6 won tons. Then divide the chocolate shavings between the six, reserving a small amount for garnish.
Brush the edges with water and then fold in half, pressing the edges to seal.
In a frying pan, heat half an inch of oil until very hot (about 2 min.). Use a metal spoon to slide the won tons into the hot oil. They will cook quite rapidly, so as soon as you see the edges brown, flip them, wait 5 seconds and remove. Drain on paper towels before serving.
You can sprinkle with icing sugar and garnish with chocolate shavings. These are best served fresh and hot, but if any make it as leftovers, they could be a tasty midnight snack!
